From Migration to Resilience

Cardiff, Wales

The Story

From Migration to Resilience explored the experiences of Ugandan Asians who made Wales their home, sharing stories of migration, resilience and cultural identity through a travelling exhibition and accompanying public event.

Created for a prominent public venue in Cardiff, the exhibition combined historical research, personal stories and digital media to create an engaging experience that celebrated the lasting contribution of the Ugandan Asian community to Wales.

The Challenge

The exhibition needed to present a sensitive and important story in a way that was engaging, accessible and respectful, balancing historical information with personal experiences.

Alongside the physical exhibition, the project required digital interpretation and interactive content that would encourage visitors to connect with the stories while supporting a wider public engagement programme.

The Solution

Working closely with project partners, historians and community representatives, we designed an exhibition that combined spatial design, interpretation and digital experiences to bring the narrative to life.

We developed the exhibition layout, interpretive panels and interactive media, carefully shaping the visitor journey to create moments of reflection, discovery and connection. Every element was designed to support the storytelling while ensuring the content remained accessible to a broad audience.

The Outcome

The exhibition successfully engaged visitors through a combination of physical displays and digital interpretation, creating an immersive experience that celebrated the heritage and resilience of the Ugandan Asian community in Wales.

The accompanying public event complemented the exhibition, extending conversations and encouraging audiences to engage more deeply with the stories being shared.

Impact

A powerful cultural exhibition that preserved and celebrated community stories, creating meaningful opportunities for people to understand, reflect on and connect with an important chapter of Welsh history.
